Relaxation

Relaxation may be divided into active relaxation and passive relaxation.

Active relaxation is about doing what you enjoy e.g. cycling, gardening, walking the dog, meeting friends, reading.

Active relaxation is about getting enjoyment from activities, being distracted from your self or your problems, getting a sense of achievement and a feeling that you and your family have done something together.

Passive relaxation is letting go of the tension in your muscles. You may practise this sitting or lying. Once you are skilled at it you may use it whilst standing or walking.

Mediation, yoga, mindfulness, breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation exercises, autogenic exercises, are some of the many types of passive relaxation.

Relaxation or reducing tension can have a number of benefits both physical and mental.
